This has happened to me before but it's been a long time! It was a PAIN! I think they have a record of how many times you return w/o a receipt and penalize you after so many. I was not aware that this was still the policy. The last time I returned something, they asked if I paid by check or Credit Card and were able to pull it up by the payment method. I don't know if that will work with cash though.
It IS a ridiculous policy though. |

Think about it after a while people keep saving stuff . Toys they should only do this with because some people save the box wait 3 months or longer same with sweppers then bring them back.Or they bring back stolen items to get money. It could also not be from their store.Walmart used to give you your money back without a receipt.Meijers will let you go back and get the same item or an exchange and then open it so you cant try and bring it back or take it to another store and get your money back.Always save your receipt/People doing things like stealing and waiting to long to bring back things has change the way they do things. |

Would you buy a car from someone who walked up to you and said that you could have it -cheap? Not title, no proof of ownership at all? Of course they want a Target receipt!! |

I'm not sure about the accuracy of the statement, however considering the complexities of Retail Business I can tell you that it is not a good thing to take back merchandise without a receipt. Many people try to return merchandise or swap merchandise in stores where the items were not purchased. This practice affects the overall inventory and sales records the the establishment must painstakingly maintain which in fact ultimately results in huge discrepancies that need to be resolved. It's like buying 150,000 dolls but having receipts that show 162,000 were sold. Huge problem and costly as well. |

Tell me, WHY is it so ridiculous for a store to require a receipt for all returns? This is standard just about anywhere.
Also, yes, Target has a limited on how many items per year you can return without a receipt, and there is a dollar limit for those items. But Wal-Mart has the same policy. I promise.
This policy is in place to prevent the many return frauds that are attempted on a daily basis. Most people that shop in our stores are honest, but there are enough dishonest people in the world that this policy is necessary.
The receipts clearly state that you have 90 days to return the item, and that you must have your receipt. That is NOT Target's fault if you lost it.
Besides, if you pay for it with anything other than cash, Target can do receipt lookup. |

It is very easy to get a receipt from Target. Their database will bring up the receipt if you provide either a check from the checking account that the purchase was made or the credit card that purchased the item. They give you two receipts for nearly every purchase you make (gift receipt plus regular receipt). So, I don't see it as a ridiculous requirement. |
