Does "casual dress" help office productivity & professionalism or not?

Personally, I feel more comfortable in casual dress (aka: Khakis and no necktie). I also feel more comfortable dealing with people who are not dressed up. Dressy clothing can be intimidating to me and I'd rather deal with someone who looks more laid-back and comfortable.

A lot of people see it as a lack of professionalism, but-- in my opinion-- so long as the clothing is not revealing, controversial, dirty, or distasteful-- wear what's most comfortable.

Khakis and no necktie! Woo-hoo for dress down Fridays! :-)

Casual dress does not promote professionalism and is used normally as a reward, or on the last day of the week, in companies that usually have a slow business day, without many visitors. How would you feel if you had to go to court and your attorney appeared in jeans and a Hooters t-shirt? His education and ability would bot be in question, but certainly his decision making ability would. Therefore, he'd be considered "not very professional", and would lose the respect of his clients, and other officers of the court.
As far as productivity in the workplace goes, that's driven by the requirements of the position, not the clothes worn by the employees. A person in an office, who's proud of his or her appearance, will justifiably be proud of the job that they're doing, and be productive. Those who don't care about their appearance, may be educated, but usually will be ad precise about their work as they are about their personal appearance.

It's normally used for rewards or special days, but really, I feel sloppy when I wear jeans (though I enjoy wearing them...lol). I've heard that people on British radio shows get all dressed up just b/c it makes them more professional on the radio.

it's ok if you are not in contact with the general public.

i just makes you look really good,,,,,,,,,,productuvity is up to you........

I think it does. For a routine day it is nice to dress down and relax. But it is important to plan for meetings outside the office and look professional. If you are serious about doing excellent work, casual (not sloppy or tacky) attire is fine. The attire where I work is business casual and jeans on Friday. But when we have meetings, we wear business attire.

From experience sometimes but most times people where office style outfits but they are inappropriate in length (women). But I think respectable dress is allow e need if it's a non client visiting office
