this would be like trying to find a needle in a hay stack and wouldn't go any where.Try looking in the phone book if it's a local person , if not you've had it! |

Well in the paper once there was a story of this guy who couldn't remember the full address of the person he was sending the letter too and so drew a map (hehe) on the envelope. The letter arrived at its destination but only because a postman recognised the name of the addressee!!
As long as you have the house number and postcode there is no need for a street name - the letter will get to its destination. Try it - write on an envelope your house number and full postcode. Your letter will come back to you in a few days!! |

Lol. Royal Mail doesn't always try to deliver a letter if it has the full name, address and postcode on it! |

It could be anyone unless it's a village with 10 residents!
Nope - it'll go as incomplete address. HOWEVER, if you know the postcode, it may narrow it down a bit and they may attempt to deliver it.
Anyway, thousands of letters go missing a year so don't count on it. |

They are usually v good at tracing people. have you tried the phone book for the address? any mail that can not be delivered goes over to Ireland where it is opened and then returned to sender, so make sure you put your address inside. |

In the past, we have had letters delivered with an incomplete (and very sparse) address.
If it is nothing too important, why not try to see if it is delivered by putting only the details you know - do you have a postcode - this should help, especially as you know the name of the person. |

Yes they will try, of course. But there are no gurantees that it will reach its destination. |

It would end up a dead letter as it would be an insufficient address.
But, it is up to the individual postperson at the time of sorting. Sometimes if, for example, when sorting, the postie recognises the name because it is unusual or distinctive the letter will be delivered. This often happens on rural rounds where there are less deliveries due to the greater distances and the deliveries are to house names and not numbers. The houses have to be memorised in the order of the delivery and often the person's name is memorised.
If someone is not sure of a complete address, give it a go with any information they have because there is a chance of the postie knowing the name.
(Speaking from experience....) |

why dont you log on to royal mail or BT web site and see if you can find the person? It is unlikely it will arrive with incomplete address. |
