Your first mistake is referring to the email as YOURS. The computer and everything on it and anything you do on it is the property of your employer. And yes, you can get fired for slacking. Of course you can. I mean, what you are doing, really, is stealing from your employer if you are slacking instead of working, while you are getting paid to work---not play on line.
Maybe to be safe, instead of playing on their compurter, you should practice eating hot dogs. |

If you are in a right-to-work state in the US, the company can fire you at any time or for any reason, except for a federally proscribed one, such as racial discrimination. If you are slacking at work and they discover it, you will get fired.
The company has the right to read your email (if accessed through your work computer), and they have every right to examine your browsing history. The legal reason is that you have no "expectation of privacy" when you at work on a work-owned computer. |

A lot of companies actually will monitor the websites that you visit while on the network. I would recommend saving the personal-type things for when you're at home if you're concerned about this. Otherwise, you could argue that Yahoo Answers is a very worthy site, which sometimes helps you when you get stumped with your job, and that you would fully recommend it to other employees as a useful tool :) |
