blondee | Does working at an outbound call center suck? |
Has anyone worked for a call center company? Im starting a new job and I want to know what it is like....do people hang up on you as much as one would think??? Is it hard to hit your quota??? |

It all depends on your personality and how you handle calls. You do get hung up on, and people can be pretty rude. However, I never let that get to me. I know I've been rude to people calling, and hung up on them too...It's just taught me to treat people with more respect. They've got a job to do too.
I don't know, I actually liked that job better than any I've ever had. I had no problem meeting my quota. Only reason I left was because it was a temp position. |

Good question. I've actually worked in both - inbound and outbound. I will advise you inbound is definitely easier - in my opinion but I think it depends on what type of outbound work you're doing.
In my experience you will find people probably don't hang out as much as you would think - as they're busy on the phones. I would assume you will have specific quota's you have to meet - but are they hard to reach? I think that depends on how much effort you put into your work. Also - watch your break times and bathroom breaks - what seems like only a minute to you can add up quickly for your employer.
I think with any job you'll have to put in some effort - and you can make the job better or worse depending on your attitude.
If you like talking on the phone, you're pleasant and you don't take anything personally you should be fine.
Good luck! |

i wouldnt do it! the whole thing is so target driven. you get yelled at by the ppl you call then you get yelled at by your boss cos you aint hitting targets. in the end u will be made to lie just to close a deal. you may as well sell your soul cos in that type of job it doesnt pay to have a conscience. |

Yes, yes and yes. The quota is high and gets higher and way too many of the people will hang up the phone before you finish the second sentence. Its a tiresome and toilsome job to constantly call and say the same thing over and over for so many hours straight, the throat, mouth and mind gets tired and parched fast. |

It really stinks!!!! But you gotta do what you gotta do and yes, alot of people hang up on you and alot of places will let you go if your not selling what your supposed to every week. Not even to mention it is sooo BORING!!! OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN. You'll see. But good luck! |

i worked at the AA and people get very frustrated when they are broken down, just put some of your own personality into the job because at call centers they make you read a script which is not nice for the caller because you know there is no feeling so i worked with the script but loosely i found people respond better, good luck with the job xx |

I work for a call center now. It does depend on the kind of person you are. I went from medical assisting (always on my feet) to a call center (always on my butt)..Lesson learned money isn't everything. I can't stand it. Quota can be hard to reach, it depends on what type of call center you work for. I know where i am we have alot of voluntary and mandatory overtime. Alot of times it will be a day after a holiday. People normally do not hang up on you at all. You have nice easy people and rude difficult people. For me some calls can be hard. There are times where i just want to cuss the person out. But you cant. If you like lazy, sometimes boring jobs then a call center is the perfect place. Hope this helps |

Yes! It sucks so much, people hang up on you, curse at you, play games with you on the phone..it's absolutely horrible. Sorry but it's th truth, the only good thing is that they pay more than working in some retail store somewhere. |

I suppose there are worse jobs out there, but I really can't imagine what they would be.
I do inbound tech support, and even that can be bad enough. At least the people we talk to *want* to talk to us.
See if you can find an inbound call center, instead. |

Yes, i have worked for a call center before and i really don't know if i would do it again. I would call people to take surveys and sometimes they would and sometimes they would not. If they wouldn't do it, i'd get hung up on. When i first started, it wasn't so bad in the first week. After that, it all started to go downhill. The only reason i'm not there anymore is because it was a temp position and i was let go along with a bunch of other temps. |

I THINK ALOT OF THAT DEPENDS ON WHAT TYPE OF PERSON YOU ARE? IF YOU ARE AN OUTGOING PERSONALITY THEN YOU WILL MOST LIKELY DO WELL.
NOW IF YOU ARE NOT A PEOPLE PERSON, THEN YOU MAY HAVE A PROBLEM AFTER AWHILE! GOOD LUCK ON YOU NEW JOB THOUGH :) |

Hey I work at a call center 3 nights a week and it is the worst job I ever did & the money is terrible, but its a lot of laughs sometimes & the other guys who work there are all cool. So I guess its like all jobs- you just grit your teeth and do it!
The big secret is just to tune out when people get abusive (which is MOST of the time! )
Good luck! |

If you are talking about tele-marketing, yes it sucks. You get hung up on, you get pranksters, but if you are lucky you get old people. That is how I hit my quota. It is sad, but I had bills to pay. You should keep looking for a job while you work there, because saying the same thing all day everyday gets old FAST. |
