I've never, in my life heard of a company that does that. I would do some research because if they are firing you then re-hiring you ..you could be losing out of benefits..sounds like a scam to me. Every company ive ever worked for just changes my address. |

lol no. They probably just don't want to pay to change your address on the payroll. It's probably cheaper to put a new employee on than to change current employees address.

Tell her she is talking nonsense. The only thing she has to do is change a field in the data base. There is nothing that can change in your employment records except when you resign or get laid of. Everything else stays the same. Even mariage. And if it is true what she maintains, report her, she has an illegal payroll system.

No, unless there is some kind of residency requirement for the job and even then it is stupid that the payroll should require it. Depending on reporting requirements, it can create horrid complications for your job record and possibly credit and tax records. How does the company deal when a former employee requests a reference - many companies limit references to "John Jones worked for our company from January 2000 to October 2007 and left voluntarily." but your company's procedure might result in "... from December 2006 to October 2007 ..." because of a change of address in Dec. 2006.
If it is a formal HR department, it is probably just bureaucratic stupidity or someone failing to understand the software. |

Your payroll status depends on your social security number. If that didn't change, they don't have to rehire you just to update their files. Even if you moved to a different state it shouldn't have an effect. Did you take a leave of absence without pay at the same time? That might explain their reaction. |
