mfront2002 | Don't you think that the USA toy companys knew about the lead paint , it seems like it to me!? |
If they want to save money by outsourcing then you think they would know that the paint has lead in it! |

They know more that what they say they do.
There's so many toxins in everything we use daily, it's unavoidable. Just look at the food we eat (not so much me, as I live on a farm - If I want steak, I go out in the field and rip one off the cow, lol)
They probably have the hunch that what they bought is full of toxins, but bypass the testing and screening so they feel protected later (recall) and can say "Oh, uh, we didn't know". Just like the pet food recall. Any business will do anything to keep a few extra pennies - even when there are lives at risk (other than their own of course). |

im pretty sure they did, but they wanted to save $ and hoped that no one would notice. i agree with you. |

They don't care until something bad happens. They feed the beast. It's all about profit margins until the wrong kid dies. |

To the person who said "government", the government can't watch or control everything. Though some would like too.
I have a hard time believing that the toy companies DIDN'T know. They are responsible for quality control. I'm not sure why they didn't or don't have people on site watching. They may have people there, but they may be corrupt.
Sadly money talks even look at the pet food problem.
When cut throat profits and greed enter the picture so many things will go wrong.
Maybe we'll learn some lessons from it...maybe not |

Businesses are corrupted by profits. Without the robust brakeshoes of government, we'd all starve.

As an American and father I'm outraged this happened! I;m sure the toy company knew. Its simple math if you make millions a day and then get fined only thousands why bother?maybe we should start buying us made stuff.but i;m sure some crazy money hungry tycoon will put lead in the paint also to save a penny! |

It suprises me that they don't employ inspectors and auditors to check out the subcontracting factories in China. Perhaps they did know and just turned a blind eye. Buyer beware! |

First, you need to realize that everyone of those toys had Certificates of Compliance that stated they were lead free.
As I make and sell nuts and bolts, and not toys, I am not 100% positive, but I would bet that they also came with PPAP level Certs, which breakdown every aspect of the product, down to Chemical certifications on the paint. Again, I'll bet they "certed" just fine.
There was a study done recently where they took hundreds of imported products from China where they could get the Certs that were included with shipments and had independent American labs verify the info contained in the Certs. Most products were NOT what the Chinese manufacturer stated they were.
They are faking the certs.
Starting about 20 years ago, we manufacturers were told to quit caring actual quality, and start caring about paperwork. This ran many small guys who made great parts, out of business. You cannot believe how intensively stupid the paperwork is.
It appears the Chinese are allowed to just make it up as they go along.
Really want to be scared? Go and look in your refrigerator and pantry and try to find out where you food was made/canned at. Can you? For most no.
If the Chinese had no problems lying about lead in paint for children's toys, do you think they care about lead, or worse, in the food they ship here? hahahahahahhaa
Wake up fellow Americans. They have our jobs, they have the equipment and they have our money. They are emitting more pollution into the air than we did during our worst industrial times. And they continue unabated growth while we petition Congress to 'stop global warming' and run even more of our jobs out. Result will be fewer jobs, less prosperity for us, and China will continue to roll on and destroy their own people and our world. But hey, for the few of us that will have jobs, tvs will be cheap.
Finally keep in mind that up until the Chinese government figured out that could steal our money too, they were bent on world domination.
Reality is very scary. |

I don't think they did, but if they did I'm sure there will be a whistle blower on 60 minutes soon. Lead paint is such a 1970s issue, most people in the states don't even think about it anymore. The companies were simply looking for the cheap products we the people demand. |

I don't think an American toy company would risk selling toys they knew had lead paint. They would know that it would eventually be discovered and be a costly incident for them both financially and a big hit to their reputation. |

The One That Got Away

Interesting theory. I wouldn't put ANYTHING past this government. |

The US toy companies absolutely knew about the issues. If they didn't, they would have contested any such case that popped up and for them to just lay down and accept it, just SCREAMS that they knew about it. To put it into laymen's terms, if you knew you were innocent about something, wouldn't you fight tooth and nail to make sure your name wasn't tarnished?
To me, it's not only about the toys but it also speaks to American parenting. I mean, where's the parent supervision when it comes to kids playing with these toys???
As a father of 2, I never bought my kids those Aqua Dots SPECIFICALLY because of the ingestion hazard. Even if it weren't Aqua Dots, I still watch and make sure my kids know how to correctly play with the toys they do have. There's no reason parents can't perform a simple supervision job.
I seriously think these days people need to go to a parenting class BEFORE having kids. |

I am sure they knew, Corruption is rampant in our government, but the Money made it worth the risk to them. Until children started dying ... then they decided it was wrong.
Thus closing the gate after the horses were out of the barn.
Typical. |
