Sunshine | EBay question...too good to be true? |
A few days ago I was first to bid on an item and was outbid by a lot of money. But today I received an email from eBay and the seller saying the highest bidder could not pay and that the seller was offering me the item at a much lower price. There were about 10 other people bidding on this same item and their bids were much higher than mine. I received an email from eBay Warehouse Services saying if I wanted to purchase the item to send my payment to their agent in Italy right away. ( I live in the U.S. and so does the seller). The seller also is hounding me to pay right away. I was just wondering if this was a scam or if it's legit. Has anyone else received emails from the eBay Warehouse Services? |

Almost certainly, this is a scam. I say "almost," because eBay does allow sellers to offer their item to the next highest bidder if the first one doesn't pay up. But there are several funny things here, and like you, I think you are being taken. First, there were other bidders higher than you, second, the money is to go outside the US, and third, i'm pretty sure that "eBay Warehouse" does not have anything to do with eBay.
I suggest you contact Customer Care at eBay (I don't have the address handy but you can find it on their site), AND the original seller and buyer. Send them messages through eBay. Tell all three what happened, and see what reactions you get. I'll bet the buyer says, "I bought my item, go away." If he does, you will know for sure this is a scam.
Good luck!!. |

Find out if the seller has Paypal's buyer protection plan, check out his feedback, if it is not 100% forget it. |

It's a scam - check your email headers, you can see where the email originated from, it won't be a legitimate ebay address. Forward the email to: spoof@ebay.com

Be very wary of this, and if you would like forward me the emails as it is classic for people to take advantage of you in this way. Yes it is most likely too good to be true, and how do they want payment? Cashiers check or Western Union are very risky. |

sounds fishy. i have done many bids and sold things but never heard of warehouse services. I did a second chance offer but not to everyone that bid just only to the most recent bid. |

Don't do it! They probably sent the exact same message to everyone else who bid. The last time I dealt with an overseas vendor in China I never received the camera I paid $400 for! Although the seller cashed my money order, I never saw the camera. They claimed they shipped the item but when I clicked on the tracking number they provided, it was fake! I sent numerous unanswered emails and tried to get eBay to at least remove the seller, but the moderators basically said they couldn't do anything about it! The whole process drove me nuts and ruined my whole experience with eBay. |

Contact ebay through ebay and ask them their opinion on this. You should hear something back in a couple of days through you my ebay account. Sounds really fishy to me, I would not do anything until I heard from ebay officially. Anyway if you did not win the bid you aren't obligated to buy. |

I am pretty sure it is a scam since anyone can monitor the bids and know who looses. Also anyone can call himself eBay Warehouse Services. Why would eBay have an agent in Italy. How do you know that the email was from the original seller. I would not take a chance. |
