Ebay owns Paypal.Ebay forces us to use Paypal.Isn't this against competition rules?
http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2008/07/04/ebay-capitulates-forcing

Or is it a case of Britain takes it lying down.

Of course Britain will take it lying down, as it always does.

Good for the Australians.

It's not really any different from shopping online with tesco, with them requiring you to use credit/debit card. You don't have the option to use a cheque or cash there or with any other online shopping site. Paypal fee's are a little extreme but Ebay is a business, its how they make there money just like any other business. Ebay doesn't force you to use paypal, they make sellers give paypal as a payment option because it is the most secure way of making sure both buyer and seller are not scammed and as long you follow the right guidelines on how you postage items etc you should never really find a problem. But sellers are still able to say they would prefer payment by cheque or postal order, postal orders costing the buyer a fee, and cheques being a right pain in the a*se with the 7 day wait for it to clear. Paypal is by far the easiest safest and quickest way to pay when using ebay and i think yes it should be available on every transaction. sellers make a killing on ebay with high mark up prices from what people would pay brand new in store, just like a real high street store, you ahve to pay your rates to be able to sell, sellers on ebay have to pay to list.

you don't HAVE to use paypal - you can wait for a check or money order to clear - 7-10 days - any retail merchant pays a fee to accept credit cards, which is the same basic process as accepting Paypal payments - you want your money fast, you have to pay for that priviledge - fact of life for a long time before Paypal ever came along

Not really, you still have the choice whether to buy your products on Ebay or through some other outlet.

Who cares either way!! Seriously?!!

Paypal is safe so whether we are push to use it or not it doesnt matter!!

kissez
No not really. It's their company and they can have a say in how they want to run it. That's one reason I don't like ebay because I don't want to open another account, but what can you do.

sort of. it helps guaruntee they have a certain income from paypal and from ebay. it does make it safer for the customers, since bad checks cant be used. u can still use credit cards through what bank or institution you like.
it is a little unfair for those who want to pay otherwise and have to pay extra for paypal.......not much option or law to stop it

The seller decides if you can only use Pay Pal, not Ebay. Just don't bid on the items that require payment through Pay Pal if you aren't comfortable with it.

it is just for credit card transactions, how can ebay make money with out them.

Packingten
first IF you accept Pay Pal the Buyer can BREAK or Modify or take PARTS from YOUR Item, Complain to E Bay ,they have this RIGGED Inquiry( Buyer ALWAYS WINS). E Bay then tells you you have so many days to refund the money,IF you don't E Bay Pays them for the item and your get it taken gtom your account LIKE IT OR NOT!. I got a Broken Vintage Banjo back stripped of valuable Parts and broken no doubt by buyer who only wanted to steal parts,I got it back broken and Money taken from Account FAIR RIGHT???
