cap'n crunch | Employers: would you hire a sweet person like me with a criminal record? |
I am a nice single mom (30) looking for a new career oppurtinity. 5 years ago I was convicted of battery and resisting arrest.
Would you look past that, or consder me a liability?
Only employers need answer here. I don't need everyones 2 cents. Thanks.
What if I explained that it was domestic, and my ex husband was abusive. He pressed charges to retaliate because I pressed charges on him, and he wanted custody of our baby. Then he used his friends as witnesses.
Resisting is what all cops say. I was just scared and wanted to get to my baby who was crying.
it's a misdomenor with no jail time. Additional Details I was offered a plea of supervision, it would have come off the record, but my ex kept threatening that while I was on supervision, he would get me in trouble by accusing me of something. He's a scary guy. I pleaded not guilty, which irritates judges, so I was found guilty. |

Feeling Mutual
|
I am a firm believer in giving people a 2nd chance.
But I expect them to prove their worth before giving them a position of trust. |

Depends on the job. Working with people, maybe. Working with tasks, sure. |

Depending on the job, but under the circumstance's I would probably hire you, if its not on your record you shouldn't worry about it, when you go to the interview be very up front about yourself, so they don't find out after they talk to you, when they run that check. |

As an employer, I would ask you the details of the incident and most importantly, get a feel for who I thought you were in person. I can usually read a person pretty well and if I felt good around you and thought you were a good fit, I would hire you.
I'm glad you got away from your ex-turd. |

Most employers are only concerned with felony convictions. If there's a misdemeanor question on the application, be honest. Otherwise don't mention it and show them you are a worthy candidate for the position. |

understand, do you see your attitude, 'I don't need everyones 2 cents'. thats has too change. it doenst matter, what happened few years ago, what matters is who you are today. its not the end of the world, just get out there and get a job. be persistant and positive.
after 7 years, they usually dont look beyond that. |

My family owns a business and if your charged with a domestic, you can't be hired. Most people with records won't get hired anyway. |
