mark the envelope "private and confidential" and the receptionist should pass it through to the recipient.

To be on the safe side, write on the envelope, "To be open by Mr/md.---------- only.

Top Tip -
Make it look like an Internal envelope (plain and just hand write the name only on it).....mark it EYES ONLY - and often that will get straight through.

there is no 'law'. if a letter is addressed to any individual it really should only be opened by them, whether or not the are a company exec. large companies handle a lot of mail and therefore all letters will be opened in a post room regardless of who they are addressed to. marking it private & confidential may bypass this - although it wouldn't where i work. if it is being delivered at work, it is related to work therefore can usually be opened by anyone, personal mail should go to a home address.
