my examples would be
1. If you were a 9-5 worker and you needed to finsish a project that evening, that you would stay on extra to complete and not just up sticks and go
2. If something was not in your job decription and someone else was off sick, you agreed to do part of their work load
Hope this helps, I have to ask this question when interviewing people and have loads more examples if required. |

Companies are not rigid any more. There is less structure and less set jobs. The company can not work on a set schedule with set rules. For an employee to be flexible in his/her hours, work ability, and thought process, it gives the company better use of that employee and increases the ability to excel for the employee. |

Nobody can work to rule. Flexibility not only in employment, but in personal life also is very very important.
As an example consider a case that you are driving your car in right lane and right direction but suddenly you find a person coming in opposite direction on wrong side. Simply because he is coming in wrong direction nobody will go and hit him. We will try our best to avoid accident and later on if required we may tell him that he is wrong. We are flexible here to save him.
In office when we are dealing with an important work, we generally do not think of leaving the office at stipulated time.
There may be many occasions, when we leave the office late.
Flexibility, adjustibility, hard work, sincerity, leadership,team work....these are all pre-requisites for success in today's competitive world.
Another example of flexibility can be to do shopping with wife and children for the coming festival in spite of over work in the office and tiredness, just to make them happy.
Finally what we need is success in employment, business or personal life and flexibility is a must. |

I'd say that you can take it to mean that they'd like you to be willing to go a bit out of your way to make things happen, basically. That could include covering someone else's shifts depending on the situation, or taking on tasks that might not be strictly within your job description to help out, as opposed to just working to rule then going home. |
