N D | Filling out an application -customer service question? |
I am filling out an application for rocky mountain candy company the question is --
A customer complains about the taste of the coffee. What would you do?
What would you like the server to do in this situation?
Will be awarding 10 pts for best serious answer |

I would ask if there was something specifically wrong with it eg, not hot enough, too bitter. I would apologize and offer to make another, free of charge and with a smile. I would make the new coffee (adjusting what was within my control) and return shortly to ask if it was to their taste. The customer is always right, Never go on the defensive and say things like "no, I made it myself, it's fine". |

apologize to the customer and let them know you will make a fresh pot and get them a new cup asap - on the house as well. If that is not satisfactory, then find out from the customer what they would like in place of the coffee! |

1. Ask more specifically what the problem is. If the issue is that they just tried a new flavor and don't like it, apologize and suggest a different flavor for next time. If the issue is something that the store did (put too much sugar in it, etc), then offer a replacement.
2. I would like the server to replace the coffee. However, to build customer retention, I'd probably tell the server to replace the coffee even if it was jsut the flavor that they didn't like. Repeat customers are the best customers. |

Ask the customer politely about his complaint.. Is the coffee too sweet or whatever. Apologize for the mistake and say that you'll see to it. Fix the problem then get back to the customer with his preffered coffee.
Hope this helps. Good luck on yoru application. |

A lot of the above suggestions are good... but not nessicarily what a manager wants to hear. NEVER offer anything for free without managers authorization. Here's my answer:
1) First, listen to the customers entire complaint. They will usually provide all the information you need before you say a word. If it is something wrong with the coffee that is the "fault" of the resturant (Old, Cold, bitter, weak, strong)... inform them you will make a fresh pot, and bring them a replacement shortly. Inform the manager of the problem, so adjustments can be made accordingly. If it is a customer fault problem (The splenda looked like the equal)j... bring them a new cup (free refill, no need to ditch a whole pot for someone elses fault). Apologize for the inconvience, and when you deliver the coffee, apologize again and ask if you can assist them in any other way.
2) I'd probably just want a new cup, i'm the type of customer to express what i'd specifically want done. (New cup, new pot, throw it in the microwave for a few seconds, etc. etc.) |
