heeltap | Former CEO of Exxon-Mobil retired recently taking a 1/2 BILLION $ with him: is this fair, reasonable & right? |
For the record, the name of that very greedy CEO as reported by the press is : Lee Raymond. Additional Details I will pick a best answer although I don't agree with any of the four answers. However, the lack of objection to the scale of the pay and to the manner in which such pay relates to the pay of the rest of the firm's employees is there to see. So here's my pick of a representative answer to my Q. |

The board saw fit to give him this package - he didn't put a gun to their collective head demanding it. If $500M is what a company sees fit to pay it's retiring leader, who is to say it's wrong? I'm sure they feel he's earned it. |

Do I think his retirement is excessive? Yeah, I guess I do. I think lots of wages in our country are excessive. Let's add to it: actors, models, athletes. It goes to show what we value in our country. Frankly, though I hate paying the bill, mechanics, great hairdressers, teachers, daycare workers, postal workers, housecleaners.......they do more on a personal level for people than fat cats in offices of gold and deserve so much more. But, can't fault the guy for his negotiation skills......I'll never make that much in 10 lifetimes. |

I agree with you. It is neither fair, reasonable nor right.

since he guided the company quite well he earned it according to the terms of his contract. he did as much to earn it as any sports or rock star. why do we not call 50 cent greedy when he gets $100 a ticket to hear him swear or squak when some tall guy gets 50 mil a year to stuff a ball through a hoop? |

Has the general public become blind. All of you are comparing apples and oranges. Do you really think that a rock star that entertains us only if we chose to buy a ticket to the show( not because we have to) and the CEO of an oil company can be compared? What to %$#$%%! We as a nation have been set up to rely on oil, we have to have it, nothing in this nation will work with out it. In reality crude prices should be regulated by the P.U.C. One man that takes $500 mil. surely has affected what we all pay at the pumps, at the grocery store, at the clothing store, and anything that requires transportation and industrial manufacturing (which is almost everything) You all are misguided somehow. There is no comparison between what we want and what we have to have. Don't be a fool. |
