hybrid_star | Generally, what do employers look for? Who will they hire? |

Quite frankly, an employer is going to hire whoever can do the job they need them to do the best. So you could be a straight A student, or you could be a straight C student, so long as you can prove to them that you have the skills they're looking for, and that you can do the job well.
Good grades are often helpful, as it can be an indicator of more dedication to work and studying. But, for example, microsoft wont care if you have a 4.0 GPA if you know nothing about computers or programming (unless you go into marketing or something else for them, but even then...). Being active is also helpful, but again, it will not matter unless the activities are relevant. Its not about what activities you did, but what skills or experience you gained. You listed being an officer in a school organization. There's lots of people who have been officers of all kinds of organizations. What makes your job unique? What leadership, teamwork, management skills did you learn? Did you learn something about managing money, or time, or resources? Did you plan an event? Highlight your responsibilities and your accomplishments.
In the end, you are hired and paid for your knowledge and experience. So the more you know about the job you want, and the more skills you have that are beneficial in that job, the more likely you are to be noticed, interviewed, and hopefully hired. Good grades are always important, but a 3.0 student with many useful skills is much, much better than a 4.0 student who knows nothing besides what the textbooks have taught him. Good luck! |

forget the straight A's. it's more about the activities and being able to be at times either "team leader" or "team player" as needed.
they also look for employees who are "self motivated" and "fast learners", so you can't be a total dumb-as*, but it's all in how you present yourself. once you get to the interview, make sure that you are communicating effectively, friendly, have a little knowledge about the company and present "the whole package". you have to fit into the company culture, and hiding behind a computer with diplomas on the wall never got any job done. |

Someone who is very confident in their abilities, describes themselves as a quick learner, easy to get along with (getting along with your future coworkers is very important), and wanting to stay with the company long term.
There's a website that lists several common interview Q&A's that I highly recommend reading!! (see my source). |
