dlgwfg | Gorman Milling Co SCAM? |
I think this is a scam. I received a check from Gorman Milling CO for $3015 with a letter saying that I won $250K. When I try to look up info provided on the check and the letter that came with it, something just tells me that this has RED FLAGS all over it. Has anyone else has a situation like this? There is a number to call, but I don't want to call and talk to someone if I can find out first if it is a scam. Thanks for any help you can give. |

Your instincts are right, it's a scam. You don't win lotteries without buying tickets, and if you're lucky enough to win, you never have to pay processing fees. If you call the number, they'll assure you it's completely legitimate and congratulate you a lot -- no help there :-)
That "loan" to cover your fees is actually a fake check, and if you deposited it and sent the cash on, it would bounce in a few weeks and you'd be stuck with financial and legal trouble as a result. Take the letter and the check to the police and hand it over to them. |

Funny you received this... I did too. My letter told me I was accorded 3rd (winner status). I am sure its a SCAM. If you do call, I would NOT give any personal information until you have a true certified check in hand and your bank and/or attorney can attest that it is true and correct. |

Great question! I received this letter a few weeks ago also. I haven't called either. I have noticed, being a school teacher, all of the mispelled words in the letter...not very professional. I have asked a number of people if the check is real, and they've all believed it was. However, I have been receiving a great amount of junk mail lately, and will not be responding to this one.
I would appreciate any more information about this! |

These days, you can easily find out more about a company using the internet in a few minutes. From a company's website, you can find details about its ownership,how old the company really is and feedback from the company's customers. I just received a letter with check, for exactly the same amount, same line about winning all this money, processing fees, the whole bit. I tried researching as well and found nothing. There is a company in Texas named Gorman Milling Co., which is the name on the check. I did not, however, find Gorman Financial, which is the name on the letterhead that came with the check saying that I, too, had won 250 thousand dollars. This discrepancy of names was another clue. Then I tried calling and couldn't get anyone but a message machine. I was excited. Now, I am more than a little skeptical and bummed. I want to cash this check but I think more information would be needed before I cash that check through my ban! If I get a response, I will be sure to post it.
