Hello, I want to take my class to a slaughterhouse in the palm springs area to show them where meat comes from. I think it will help them understand more about what the food chain really means. Maybe not the killing floor, but at least let them see the disassembly line. Are there any public tours anyone is aware of?

I understand it is a big deal but if they eat meat then aren't they doing the slaughter persons' job by extension? |

I took my high school class to one once and it is fairly graphic, even if you avoided the kill room. Go see where a plant is from or eggs, or milk. The hanging carcasses were still twitching, even though they were headless, skinned, and cut in half lengthwise. It really freaked out some of the kids, and they were in a high school animal science program. Spare the kids some therapy! I'd flip if you took my elementary child to one! |

goodness....i hope not. good luck getting permission slips signed by the parents....even vegetarians wouldn't do such a thing to children to support their eating styles. |

Oh dear, I wouldn't take anyone under the age of 14 to a place like that. Sure it's good to let everyone know what's going on at some of those places, but you can't forget that kids are still rather fragile to that kind of thing. Kids love animals. |

Catch a wake up peoples. Killing animals is part of staying alive. 14 year old children are not fragile, sensitive things - they are fully capable of creating life, and many of them do.
