Is it illigal under corporate law to accept gifts from suppleirs. That is to say firms that we give work to and not firms that give work to us. Is the christmas gift from a supplier classed as a gratuity and as such unacceptable. |

As far as I know there are no laws against corporations accepting gifts...but most companies have internal rules governing the acceptance of gifts above a certain amount. THe only way to know for sure with your particular company is to look in your employee handbook or ask your supervisor. |

I think there are taxability issues- that is, customer gifts may not be tax deductible business expenses. |

no, its not illegal, your company may have policies about ethics that cover it.
Generally, its ok if its minor and transparent to any deal.
Most companies exclude ANY gratuities to government bodies as this can be illegal. Governments sate this in thier procurement rules.
I politely decline, and do not give any gifts out to business contacts.
If someone offers me a gift in public ( at a presentation or something ) I accept to avoid embarassing the giver, but return it afterwards, or make sure they know its being donated outside of my organisation. |

I think a direct gift can be interpreted as bribery, but you can get around it by saying its a special offer ie. buy 10 boxes of paper get a gift. Why what have you been offered, and was it your stationary supplier cos im sure i could do better |

It's a Christmas gift!! And since when does ANY corporation care about "illegal" ??? Or a bribe, or a kick-back?? Or ANYTHING but money?? Money has a way around "illegal" anyway, now doesn't it? |
