Robert Eckert, the CEO of Mattel has fallen on the sword because of the shoddy work produced by Chinese manufacturers. He has publicly apologized and accepted the blame assessed against China. Is he saying that he prescribed leaded paint to be used on Mattel toys ? Or is he capitulating to the Chinese government, to let them save face? Mattel has already shown it's greed by taking away thousands of jobs in other country's, in order to improve it's bottom line, but at what cost, the safety of our children ? |

I was hanging with Mattel until that apology. Double sell out - taking jobs out of America years ago, and then this final icing on the 'slap our own in the face' cake.
Wal-Mart is the best earning colony China ever had ---- and now this Mattel apology.
We are fools to keep putting our money in Mattel and Wal-Mart's traitorous pockets !!!!!!!!! |

He had no choice, most of Mattels products are made there, if he left the blame to China, China would tell Mattel to go screw and then they would lose billions while looking for a new manufacturer. That's the cost for moving production overseas. |

I think the C.E.O. of Mattel should take responsibility for whatever they produce, whether it’s their fault or not. That shows dignity.
I haven’t lost faith in Mattel, but I am rapidly losing faith and trust in Chinese products. Just yesterday, I heard about two more problems with imported products from China: 1) poorly constructed baby cribs which have been linked with the deaths of several infants, and 2) lunch boxes with traces of lead in the lining. |

Mattel did the right thing - remember the tained Tylenol? When the manufacturer takes responsibility, they're not shifting blame.
Mattel is right - they should have better testing in place for what they bought.
It doesn't mean that China isn't wrong - but at least Mattel's not passing the buck.
BTW, if you ONLY bought toys made in Europe and the US, you would pay a 100 - 300% premium - and would never shop in Walmart - so consumers are to blame by not supporting the higher quality, non poisonous toys. Companies respond to the marketplace, not the other way around. |
