There are a lot of companies jumping on the bank charges band wagon, some good and others bad. Theres a lot of companies that are out to rip people off by charging 40% of the returned amount as fees. These are being cracked down on though, and from the 23rd April companies that claim bank charges back for people need to registered by the Department of Constitutional Affairs' new claims management regulation body. You can check that a company has registered at the address at the bottom of this reply.
However, it is very easy to claim your bank charges back on your own. Its a long process time wise, as it takes around 3 months, but little actual work is needed. Most of the time is just spent waiting for the banks to reply.
The only exception to this is if you are claiming back more than £5000 in charges (for the UK, £750 in Scotland) as this is the limit for the small claims court. If you are claiming back more than these amounts it will be dealt with in a normal court, which requires more outlay in court fees. In this case its sensible to get a company to do it for you, as they take the risk and put up all the money for you to pay court fees.
On my site below, there are full guides to the process of claiming your charges back, along with template letters you can put your own details into and send to the bank. Each step of the process is explained in details, and I have now added forums to the site to ask questions and get more details if you need them.
The site is completely free to use, its set up purely to help people claim back their charges rather than as a money making venture.
Its really not difficult claiming back your charges, many thousands of people have done it successfully, and as long as you follow the steps you can't fail. You don't need any previous legal knowledge etc, or to employ a solicitor, you can do every step yourself.

No, but it sounds all a bit fishy to me!! A person can easily claim back bank charges on their own, and it is probably likely this so called company are trying to claim back bank charges on other peoples behalf and thus take a lage cut of the reclaimed charges. I would ignore them. You don't need a comapny to help you reclaim charges.
Or has the others say it may even be scam to try and pry people's bank details from them in order to then access bank accounts. |
