as an update, i contacted Anthro Corp., which is the name on the check, and they told me THIS IS A SCAM!!If anyony has a check withe the name Anthro Corp Technology Fruniture, please contact the company at 1-800-325-3841. they are working with police are want to talk to anyone who recieved a check. |

Guys! This is a scam. When you deposit the check, and then contact the agent he will ask you to send him money through moneygram or western union and you do it. Then after a couple of days your bank will inform you that the check has bounced and you have to then pay them back the money you sent through moneygram or western union. Thus you are ripped off of may be $3100 + The check bounce fees and you will then never be able to contact the agent or whoever he is.
Although the companies mentioned on the back of the check are legit, they'll tell you they never heared of anything like this or worst! they never know that someone is using their name.
SO! BEWARE OF ANYTHING LIKE THIS THAT ASKS YOU TO PAY FOREIGN EXCHNAGE TAX OR WHATEVER FANCY NAME THEY GIVE. IF IT IS LEGIT WHY CAN'T THEY DEDUCT IT AT SOURCE AND SEND YOU THE BALANCE AMOUNT?! BE CAREFULL. GUYS - THERE IS NO FREE LUNCH IN THIS WORLD. |

I just recieved a check for 4,650.00 from the same company, General Trust. I can't call the number listed my cellphone won't allow me to. It looks like a scam to me. Does your letter state it is a home improvement check and is the number 1-289-892-3917?? |

THIS CHECK IS A SCAM. Anthro is a legitimate company. A Home Improvement check which is supposed to be from winning a no strings attached "grant" is NOT!!!!! Please report it to Anthro (see their website for e-mail) and the Attorney General in your state. Do NOT cash or deposit their checks, as it will show that you are signing a contract and give them access to your personal information. |

I just got a check from the same people. Lord knows I could use the money but I'm glad I check the web first!!! Unreal. . .I called the number on the check and it said it was a real check but. . . .must be a scam!!!

My son received a check for $4,650.00 as well. I tried to look the company up on the internet but was unable to locate it. It sounds a little suspicious to me....although all of the donors listed on the back of the check are legit. It doesn't seem like they would be able to list those companies if there was not some validity to it...still sounds suspicious. |

I also received a check in the mail yesterday for $4,650. The check looks real. I tried calling last night and all "representatives" were busy then I just called about an hour ago and it said the same thing and the mailbox was full so I couldn't leave a message. I am registered with some of the donors on the back but it seems like a scam too good to be true. I am wondering why they would send a check and we would have to pay the fees why can't they do that? Maybe that's the whole scam cash the check and it messes up your checking account or something like that. I'm wishing it is not a scam I could really use that money. Another thing I saw is the stamp on the letter they mailed me says Canada and then the piece of paper says Brooklyn, NY. If anyone gets through to them and finds out please let me know. |

I also just got a check from the same company named General trust Inc.. for 4,650 dollars. I was suspicious and checked internet right away for the company and find this. The check is from a 'Bank of the west, Tualatin, OR' and I checked for the bank and find that there is such a bank and they have a branch in the above said place. I wish I could use the money... but suspect this as a spam. |

I also got a check in the mail for 4650.00 and it was for a home improvement grant. I called the number on the paper(1-289-892-2348) and a guy named David Hamilton answers. He told me to send him 3150.00 with western union and for me to keep 1500.00 and with two to three days he was going to send me a check for 36,350.00 right then I knew it was a scam because it was to good to be true.I also did little research and his cell the letter and the check are all from different states. |
