markysparky | Has anyone had a bad experience with e-bay and paypal? |
A bloke bought a bike from me.It arrived damaged and so he reported me.I sent a undamaged bike but it was damaged in transit. They froze my account and e-bay suspended me too. Additional Details It was not a shoddy bike. It was an excellent bike with shocks, disc brakes etc and for £41.00 a bargain. |

Sorry about your misfortune there! So far, I've only ever bought stuff, and from my experience so far it has been great. I think that you owe it to yourself as a buyer and a seller though to check the feedback very carefully of who you're dealing with. It looks like there are TROLLS that give bad feedback. I saw one bloke, a seller with thousands of good feedbacks, but one jerk had given I think 20 negative feedbacks on exactly the same matter. Just like in real life, some people will 'try it on' to get something for nothing. I wonder if your customer was a troll and trying to get a free bike out of you?
Sorry about that, the people I have bought from so far have been really great, nice, polite and businesslike, my payments have gone through smoothly, and their goods have been 'incredible' quality and all carefully packaged. Don't let this toe-rag spoil it for you matey. Set up another account and bounce right back. Hope that helps a little. |

The monkey spanker.

I payed for a load of battery's which never arrived. the seller couldn't care less and couldn't supply proof of purchase. neither paypal nor ebay refunded me the money because i didn't reply to an email i wasn't expecting (within a week) whilst on holiday. I still feel completely let down by there guaranties. |

Yeah, I have had a bad experience...
Earlier on in the year, I brought what I thought was an iPod touch from a user with 100% positive feedback. Only, when the £240 pounds had gone through, they had only sold me a site that sells iPod touches.
Then, they refused to give me my money back when I wanted it. After I contacted eBay, though, they gave me back just under £240.
Hope that helps :) |

If you got suspended, then you very likely did not respond to the dispute, and hoped it would just go away. Incorrect.
Let's assume for a moment that your buyer is not lying, and they really did receive damaged goods. Imagine you're in their shoes. Would you be happy with that? You bought a working bike, but a wreck arrived at your door? Would you just say, "Oh well, stuff happens!"? Not likely.
You say it was "out of your control". That is not correct. Delivering goods to your buyer in the condition you stated is 100% in your control. You ship items insured, so if they arrive damaged, you have some recourse. If you ship uninsured, then you are gleefully assuming the risk that you may lose your widget and your payment from the buyer.
What you should have done is to file a claim with the freight service that shipped the thing. Then you can refund your buyer, and everyone's happy.
PayPalSucks.org is a website where criminals meet to try to work out ways to scam PayPal. They are mostly people who were suspended from eBay and had their PayPal funds frozen because they were selling counterfeit goods. I wouldn't put too much stock in what they say. |

I have been using ebay for 4 years now, both as buyer and seller. I never sell anything i would not be happy to buy myself. I triple check the listing on anything i buy and never assume anything that is not stated. So far, i have had no bad experiences and currently have a feedback of 957 100% positive. (in fact i have done well over 1100 trades but many people have bought from me more than once so only their first feedback is included in the numbers).
It may be that your gripe is aimed in the wrong direction. Carriers are not exactly noted for handling goods with kid gloves are they? With a bike there are vulnerable areas - wheels, gear tensioner cluster and forks. A heavy carton slung on top of these areas could cause damage.
Everyone seems to have a bad story about paypal or ebay - though many are second hand hearsay - but you have to put it into context, ebay is an absolutely huge market place and the fact remains that most people have a trouble free experience most of the time. You never hear about the millions of trouble free transactions, it is just like the newspapers - bad news sells papers, good news does not and no one wants to hear it. |
