Has anyone heard of the company, Red Star Multimedia? Is it legit or a scam?
Has anyone worked for the Red Star Multimedia company? Website: http://www.redstarmultimedia.com/

I found a Craigslist ad for a job position and was curious to see if anyone else has reponded to ads for this company.

I could not find any "spam" information on this company online. So, I decided to ask here to see if anyone has had experience with this company.

Thanks for your help!

Hi I actually just got an email from them right now, I am in San Antonio, TX and I must have sent them my resume yesterday evening, when I was job searching... they sent me the following email about 5 minutes ago....:

Hello Tiffany,

Thanks for your email, we appreciate your desire to work with us.

About the Position:

Our company builds and maintains websites for hundreds of
businessesacross the world. Often our clients websites will go
down for hours at a time without notification, causing them to
lose lots of valuable time, money and potential new users/
customers. Having the site tested at regular intervals helps our
clients save money and insure that their site is always working
at maximum functionality.

Your job will be to visit a list of websites that we provide to
you, observe the site and spend a few minutes looking at various
pages of the website (ie clicking links and exploring the site as
though an everyday user would. You may also be required to test
other site functionality such as the sign up process and follow
up process to make sure an end user would fully understand this.
You will be required to interact with the site as an end user, ie
fill in forms, submit comments etc.
You will be required to spend around 5 minutes on each site and
perform important actiosn which we will outline in detail for
that particular site.

Many of our clients also use our services not only to test their
websites but to also test their follow up marketing procedures
and their own marketing staff. You may receive follow up emails
or contact from the companies and you
will be required to act as a mystery shopper to test their all
round strategy. You will report back on the follow up so they
can monitor their own staff activity. To this end you will be
required to act interested in their products/ services or
websites and not reveal your own project.

Users will be given access to private areas of client websites
which includes back offices, product download pages etc. As a
result successful applicants will be required to sign a NDA
agreement. All sites have been tested and are virus free and
completely secure.

You will be paid $17.50 per hour on a bi-weekly basis. You will
be required to work a minimum of 16 hours per week and a maximum
of 40 hours per week. We will provide you with the projects and
a timescale to complete them in.

I have attached a small test project for you to complete to
access your suitability for the role. Please read the
instructions carefully and then return your completed project
back to me as an attachment.

Once I have your completed test I will notify you if your
application has been sucessful.

If you have any questions then please let me know.

I look forward to working with you in the future.

If you have any questions Tiffany concerning the role
then please let me know.

regards

I ran a Whois check on the web site and got the following results. The domain was registered only on 11/9/2008. That means the site was up only 10 days before the Craigslist posting went out. Very fishy!

I was searching for the same answer actually. I have been reading up about job scammers and one of the things to look for is typos in their email. Mine was loaded with them, which presumably a professional organization would have the foresight to proofread/spellcheck. So I'm considering them a scam, I suggest you check your email for similar errors.

Ms. Bliss
It's almost as if they ask you to fill out "prospect forms" for these companies to expand consumers to these businesses. It seems like a tall request to even be considered for an application for a job. Really sneaky way to get site traffic without compensation.

Also, I tried to find an address, phone number through the business look-up, map quest, anything... Internet sites like map quest are up to the minute. Even the newest business can be found through them. Nothing came of it. This is also how I try to find out about other business. Something should solidify and "Yahoo Answers" was the only result.

I also found typos right off the bat. It really does show ignorance and lack of pride in a company which I'd think twice about for that very reason.

I Googled the number and found www.Tollfreeforwarding.com which is a company that allows you to get a 888, 866, 877, etc. forwarded to you i.e. cell phone if you want.

Not a business I would be expected to get paid $17.50 an hour from.

I have received an identical email. I stopped when asked to enter my ss#. I called and emailed to ask about this, and have not been able to get any response from Red Star. I can not find them listed on the bbb site at all. And haven't found any substantial info online.

Whorace
I am pretty sure it is a scam. I received a identical email 1 week previous from a different address and the person's name was also different. At that time I tried to reach the person via email and telephone number provided unsuccessfully. This second email the body was identical with a different persons name and a telephone number, I tried to call the number and got a recording stating it was a forwarding service, I did not leave message.
If you open the attachment and begin to follow instructions you will be asked to enter personal info such as S.S. number (gotcha)!!!
I would like to know who to turn to to stop these SOB.

I just received the same email via a craigslist ad. I googled the red star multimedia name and found this. Their email also had errors - I will immediately delete it. Thank you for everyone's help! As usual, it sounded too good to be true.
