Unfortunately, if you didn't pay by Paypal, Ebay offer no protection any more. However, as an earlier poster suggests, you CAN get this person's contact details from Ebay and, if they have completed them correctly, you can give them a call and ask what's going on. Use this link

Failing that, you'll have to take him to a small claims court to get your money back
HOWEVER, if the cheque's only cleared today, he won't know that for a couple of days and so won't be posting it to you yet even if he is genuine

You usually go through eBay for this. They don't let a person list an item without sufficient confirmation, or so I've heard, but that info is only available in a circumstance like this. Go through the eBay process.
Oh oh and btw, amazon and other ecommerce websites warn consumers against dealing directly with the person. If you use PayPal or whatever payment method they have up, they get the money, you get the item, and then they give the money to the person.
A scammer will see your bid, email you directly and ask for direct payment, and then just take your money.
I think eBay is a pretty reliable, but if you paid the person directly that is your fault, because they warn against that. Still, contact eBay and see what they can do. I'm sorry you met a scammer. There is a lot of scum on the planet. |

You must complain to ebay ASAP! I was scammed by a Louis Vitton purse seller for $800 (so many are fake). I won the complaint. :) |

First off, file a complaint with eBay.
Let them take care of him so he doesn't get anyone else.
You probably won't get your money back(worst case)...BUT, next time you shop on eBay...check out the seller's FEEDBACK RATING.
I've never had a problem on eBay, and I've purchased quite a few things...but ONLY from seller's with a good rating.
