Conversation | Have you ever been FIRED from a job and escorted out by security? |
At the place I use to work at, many people are fired at a regular basis. When they do fire someone they call in a team of security officers who will stand next to the employee and watch them while they gather their personal belongings. They are usually given about ten minutes to clear out their things.
After that security will follow them while they are paraded to the Office Manager, then to Human Resources, then to Payroll and then to the door. Finally they are given a final paycheck with no severance.
How are people fired or laid off at your company? Have you been fired your self? |

At my company, it really just depends on the position that the person held. If they had access to sensitive information then they get the "royal escort". We make sure that they don't take proprietary info, check their belongings as they leave and deactivate their key card immediately. If the person was in a lower position, they clean out their locker and leave. If the person seems like a security risk such as going ballistic and acting out, the person is usually fired and immediately escorted to the front door. |

I got fired once working at a dealership for Honda. I called in sick on a Friday- really wasn't feeling well at all, and then Saturday I went into work (I probably shouldn't have) and the manager said I'm gunna have to let you go. I asked him to give me a reason why and he didn't give me one. I said fine- and then walked out. It was pretty bad I guess because I've been there for almost a year and I got 3 raises within that year. I know I was a good worker, maybe it was discrimination? Not so sure- I was 20 and everyone else there was in their mid 30's or higher. |

I have never been fired, but that sounds like a company that is managed by fear, I for one wouldn't want to work there anyway. |

Never been fired but some jobs required that I sign an agreement to keep all information I gained or came across during the period of my employment absolutely confidential regardless of whether I were to be laid off without weeks of notice or that they treat me unjustfully and it leads to a lawsuit.
One secretary was fired merely about a month after she was employed and she threatened to file suit and disclose the little information she learned to a rival company. Due to her irrational behavior e.g. yelling, crying, throwing stuff at the manager we (the men in the office although were not security guards or anything) had to walk her out of the building. I had always been kind to her so, she didn't cause any more trouble and left but I did hear later on from my boss (former) that she had in writing demanded compensations for months of salary that she thought was guaranteed.
When I left the company (in good terms) they gave me a huge bonus it was obvious what that money was for... And even though nobody walked me out of the office when I resigned; the company had installed a surveillance camera (out in open but right over my desk) several weeks prior to my announced date of resignation.
I guess it's not uncommon practice; especially when your job requires you to deal with sensitive information that can easily be taken with you and sold to a rival company for 100 times the amount of your monthly salary. No, my job was not with the government or anything but some of the major clients were gov contractors so, I didn't think it was weird or anything; but then again, I wasn't fired so letting me know that they were monitoring me was all the insurance they needed I guess; didn't really think much about it until I read your question. (Again, this was just a regular office job, not some high security building.) |

All depends on the country and the nature of the employment contract...
Have I been fired - no - but I have fired people and had them escorted out the business.
In the UK this can be done but only after due process - if there is an agreed 'notice period' then even if they are walked off the premises they have to be paid severance.
When applying for a job (in any country) your employment contract can be negotiated rather than accepted. This is up to your to agree the terms and conditions - not just accept what is put in-front of you. If they really want you they will flex!
Often when the business operates sensitive data it is better for the individual to leave straight away rather than work notice - so diff companies will handle this in different ways... |

Unless they have definitive proof of wrongdoing, your company sounds wide open for litigation. And I hope it happens because their methods are meant to be humiliating. |

This isn't because the person was a bad worker or a danger or anything.
This is very common in the cases of people who may have had access to valuable or sensitive information, or who were in a position to potentially do harm to the company when they are fired.
If there is an escort, this eliminated the possibility of the theft of important stuff, the uploading of a virus or the destruction of a vital program (In the case of IT workers and programmers) is made much more difficult. |
