Have you ever tried calling the cable, electric or phone companies?
Do you think that their horrible, long winded, no help, no human automated menus that they use as a sorry excuse for customer service?

I miss the days when a human answered and put you through to who you needed to talk to. I think customer service has really went down the drain because of these new technologies. I remember buying a speaker/intercom phone with auto redial for being put on hold after navigating their never ending, make you want to hang up, phone menus.

Amazing how you give these companies money your entire life till you die, but you simply can not call and speak with some one. It has become an ordeal.

Another terrible injustice forced on the consumer. These guys can afford operators I think it would cut into their profits though.

Funny how those who's sole concern in life is making profits can have such a negative impact on consumers.

This lousy customer service approach only works when companies think they have a monopoly or you can't change providers easily as in the case of cell phones. If you are calling to set up service with these companies you can get right through but that will be the last time. They don't want operators because if you can tell them about problems that can eventually require them to address them and that might cost money. This way unless you have a severe problem you just put up with it.

I absolutely hate voicemail systems that force you to listen to dozens of options before giving you a chance to speak to an operator. I refuse to participate and always give the customer service person my feedback (kindly, better than they treat me usually) on their system.

I found this great website that provides instructions for by-passing the system and getting directly to a human. I always consult this site before making any calls.

Visit www.gethuman.com. They have a list of the "secret" codes for many sites that will bypass the menus and take you straight to a human.

Also, with caller ID technology, many companies can identify their "problem" customers as soon as they call. They claim it is so they can automatically route them to a supervisor or special department but they could also use that information to drop you into endless hold so you will give up.

The ones I really hate are the new voice recognition lines. I just want to push a button, I don't want to try to figure out what key phrase might get me to the right person. I always have to keep repeating myself and it gets annoying! By the time I get to a person, I'm irritated and probably not the most pleasant to talk to.

exactly! and you know whats even worse then that? i had to dial 911 at work for someone who got hurt and got an automated response! how sick and sad is that?!?!

Here in CA they have even bypassed the illegals for something cheaper, even than automation. It works well and BETTER than when an American human answered. (Sadly)

Call the DMV. You get, in ONE RING, a well-spoken. friendly knowledgable (if slightly accented) person in INDIA. They help you completely resolve your question, even if it takes one minute or one hour.

Good side: Excellent service.

Bad side: It put a computer (made in China) out of work.

Upshot: The computer got paid back for putting an American out of work, but he or she was not of much help anyway, even if they did finally answer the phone.

They say a company is judged by their customer service. The company I work for does not outsource their Customer Service. They are well paid and answer in one ring because it's a utility. But we are an exception.

I miss those days too. I mailed myself a package from the US to Hungary.It has been more than 3 months.I tried to contact USPS threw e-mails and phone calls. It took 7 tries to get any response from them. Now it will be up to 60 more days before I may find out where my package is.For some reason it is in the Netherlands!I don't know what it is doing there. I fear I will be fighting USPS in the furture for my insurance money on the misplaced package.What a pain...

Just another blatant example of Corporate laziness , this also applies to our Elite Politicians in Washington !! If they don`t have to talk to you in person about a problem , then in their minds there is no problem ? We are told by both of these groups that the automated systems gives their people more to do their job , now that is how stupid they think we are !! If your only job is in customer service , then what do you need more time for ? Other than to furnish customer service ??

what really ticks me off is you have to push a button for spanish or english and normally its hit 1 for spanish and 2 for english. 2 for english my as$ its bad enough that they are not forced to learn english but for english to be the second choice really burns my as$ up.
