The easiest way is to 'tattle' to the better business bureau. It doesn't do much, but it's a start. After that, try running a story in your local newspaper. Education is how revolutions begin. If you tell everyone you know, and become proactive, something will be done. Post it on websites, create podcasts, and broadcast on youtube. Knowledge is power. If all else fails, sue.

I think it all depends on the "crime."

Personally for financials, I think the bigger problem is graft and white collar crime, not low pay. We have minimum wage laws that apply to most jobs in the US and most people raising families or between the ages of 25 to 60 are not working minimum wage jobs. Unfortunately if the job typically is not a W2 and/or doesn't require a social security number, there's not a lot that can be done there unless someone is hiring an illegal alien. Then of course, you could try to contact the federal immigration agencies.

If it's bad working conditions, then they need to be reported to proper agencies (health departments, OSHA, etc).

Companies that expose workers to dangerous conditions can be held accountable through reporting agencies as well. There are governing agencies for a number of industries such as nuclear, manufacturing, and oil. You'd have to research some industries to find out what the governmental reporting agency might be.

There are reporting mechanisms but they do require investigations. Often if it is an environmental problem (exposure to hazardous materials, unsafe work places, that sort of thing), the companies are usually made to clean up and make it safe and sometimes fines.

Class action Lawsuits. The only problem with lawsuits is if they lose and have a huge judgement against them. Sometimes that will cause companies to go into bankruptcy. Then everyone who has a job there loses.

Employees usually know what they are going to be paid when they apply or interview for a job so your low wages argument is moot.

Don't buy their products. Than open your own "alternative" corporation. If society agrees that labor should receive more pay, they would be willing to pay higher prices for your product. This has actually occured. If you can follow the history of corporate social responsibility at GAP, you will see a company who made radical improvements to labor conditions due to activist groups increasing awareness and changing customer tastes.

Just remember one thing, somebody always pays. If Wal-Mart or McDonalds pays their employees more, we, the consumer end up paying through higher prices. If prices are not increased, we the investors (and you probably do have this stock in a retirement or pension plan) lose. If you feel someone with little education, few job skills, and little responsibility deserves to make more, feel free to pay up. Most liberals and protesters seem to forget this fact.

Punish them in the marketplace. Do not buy their goods or services.
