Help with the Boss in the Workplace?
What is the best way to handle a Boss who is very emotional, cannot tell the truth about anything, has a ton of personal problems that she brings to the work place and when you ask her a question about your job , you get about 1 hour of her personal problems, not to mention that she never shows up when she is suppose to , and when there is a problem she cannot deal with it and let it goes , she will hold onto it for weeks.Hate to say she really does not know her job very well and cannot answer many questions correctly and does not deal with people very well.. The problem, I like my job and do a good job at it , but get no direction at all and nobody will do a thing about the situation but let it go.. Any ideals where to turn for help? I work for a large company and everybody knows this person has many problems and talks about it behind her back , but the superiors will not do anything about it..

Oh my, do we work at the same place? I very seldom go in to talk to my boss because she talks too much. I just do my work ,make my own decisions, do the best I can. If I need help, I ask a co-worker that I respect and trust. If there's a problem, let the boss come to me. It can be frustrating. Try not to talk about her too much, and only to people you can trust. Good luck, and keep doing a good job for your own self, not for the boss.

go to HR and let them know that she is too emotionally stressed to be working right now. maybe you should let her know on the low that she is becoming very annoying and incompent in the workplace. it is very unprofessional to bring your personal problems to work, let alone affect everyone around you. this is a very tough situation to be in and I hope this information helps.

1) If your company supports an "open door policy" speak to someone in HR or at a higher level, letting them know the impact of your supervisor/manager's behavior to your customers (internal or external), your department and your performance specifically. Provide direct concerns with valid examples and don't provide extraneous information. Avoid talking about how other team members feel since you don't want to be perceived as stirring the pot.

2) Transfer to a different position within your company.

3) Find a new position at another company.

While your perception is that nobody is doing anything about your boss to address her performance/behavior remember that they can't broadcast any steps that are being taken. They may have addressed it but have to progressively increase the manner in which they approach it as well as give her time to improve. He/she may have an issue that you may not be aware of that is protected by ADA, etc. and that is the cause of the behavior.

bosses like that come along every once in a while, you either find yourself a new job or ride it out, she will move on and hopefully the next one will be better

Is her name Marcia..I had her for a boss too.

Find the most experience, or senior person or the person who really appears to run things and talk with them. Ask them for suggestions on what to do, don't talk about the boss behind her back, but tell this person you feel she is very knowledgeable and would like to use this person as a mentor.

Never talk behind people's backs. You never know who is related to who or who will run back to the boss.
