Try and get editorial in the glossy food magazines. You could send out a good press release (preferably with some enticing pics of your food printed on them to catch the journalists' attention) or invite some of the food writers to come for a meal and review your restaurant in their mags. That way, you'll get stunning pics of your food published, plus your full contact details. It's a great way to get top class promotion without paying a hefty price for an ad. Try magazines like Delicious, Fresh and the BBC's Olive as they really stand out on the newsstands and are distributed nationwide in WHSmiths and all supermarkets. Good luck! |

go to the tyne bridge with a bill board asking for staff required at the best restaurant in town, the telly people will jump on you and you get free advertising and lots of curious customers, when it works i want 10 points and a free meal for 2, me and the wife. good luck in your venture and let us know what you call it and we might pop in. |

I would consider a very generous promotional marketing scheme, like offering free drinks for the duration of the meal? What's most important is that people come and they taste the good food, they'll go off and reccomend it and you'll have more custom. |

all of the ways are great that have been mentioned you could also make a web site and see how you go about advertising on the net shame you don't say where abouts you are in the north of England |

Think you should have had this sorted out before you decided to " open a Restaurant "..." if you fail to plan, you plan to fail "

You could start a regular diners scheme. Hand out cards that get stamped every time they eat at you restaurant. For every 5 stamps they get a free meal. Or offer special deals to regulars. |

Have a 'taster' evening where people can try small samples of your FANTASTIC cuisine. Kinda like an opening night but use your catering skills to pull in the punters. Don't have your tables set up so there is plenty of room and people can mill about and chat. Leafleting is a good way of getting more custom, especially if there is a voucher attached for 'buy 1 get 1 free' on main courses. That way they then order starters, deserts and drinks and you don't lose too much profit. GOOD LUCK !!!!!!!!!! |

Contact the metro newspaper as they do retuarant reviews (a full page spread) and the paper is free on all public transport. Do something quirky or for charity and get on local news. |

You don't say where abouts in the North; I always read Manchester Confidential, and this link will give you an idea of the types of review and promotion that they get involved with:
