I dont use them alot, but they are just as good as USPS, UPS, or DHL. All of those shipping companies are very competitive so really there is not much difference, although I find USPS to be cheaper most of the time.

unless given different instructions they will leave a notice saying they were there and when they will try again- I've always been very happy with them and even gotten things earlier than expected but never late.after 3 tries with no one home they will leave it at the office for pickup-after the first notice you can call and tell them a safe place to leave it for you

When there's no one to receive to receive a package, they would normally leave it at the front door. They also provide a tracking service, so they can tell you exactly where it is (online).
Before when I have used FedEx, the packages have always made it to the right place at the right time.
