How bad? Imagine that petrol is so expensive that people so broke that many have taken to sleeping in their cars at night to protect their tanks if they still have any petrol in them. That food is so expensive that many of us will not be able to eat more than 1 or 2 meals a day. Dole queues will snake round buildings. Developers and companies that are household names today will be mere footnotes in history. Even the govt will be laying off civil servants. Many banks will crash, leading to financial panic and chaos. Pensioners who cannot heat or eat will be dying like flies.
Only the asylum seekers and those on State benefits will survive a bit longer. But those unproductive workers who have brought about this mess - the politicians and fat cats of 'industry' (a misnomer unless it means reducing everything they touch to dust as 'INto-DUST-weTRY to reduce it ) - will be fine and enjoying their pensions and pay-offs in the Bahamas. |

Yep! It's bad - and it's going to get worse because Labour have sold off all our reserves and now that trouble is here - we have nothing to back up the bad times ahead.
When companies like IKEA are in debt for the first time ever and having to borrow money - then you know it is going to be bad |

Some parts of the economy, like property and related areas are in recession, but not the whole economy. If you are referring to the Ernst & Young Item Club, they are still forecasting 1% growth in the economy, which be be a slowdown, but not a recession.
If houses are not selling, they are on at the wrong price!
Falling car prices have to do with CO2 emission targets.
So, keep your chin up, Private Frazer! |

We're not in a recession yet. A recession is defined as two quarters back to back of loss. The US is simply growing slowly. But I don't know about the UK. You guys don't have as diverse an economy, and it's number 5 instead of number 1. |
