There are so many reasons for chinese lead in exports to USA.Do you remember chinese labour worked hard in the development of USA.They laid the railway line from east to west.Thousands of chinese are settled in USA from the begining,before indian independence.Naturally mainland china and USA have historical relations.
Chinese are having comunist economy,ie.no accounts,profits,balance sheets etc.If they want to export for the sake of earning foreign exchange they can go to any extent and sell the product.
Recently they have good relations on political grounds after Nixon visit because china and Russia fell appart and USA made friends with enemy's enemy (a Friend).
This is Chanikya politics in indian history and we don't follow ourselves.
By harsh discipline and minimum wages they have developed their industry and millons have suffered.India can't opt for such methods.
The double talk of US business men is very clear.As long as their profits are coming they dont care what happens in China or Pakistan.Human rights etc are only for democratic countries like ours.Do you know how old and sick most of the chinese industries and mines are? Very frequently now a days the news about the accidents and the losses are leaking out.For one Bhopal we made hell for US business men.(we are right)
I agree our politicians and business men are short sighted and don't make amends to their mistakes.Any day our products are better and we will soon overtake them.Also earning foreign exchange is a life and death porblem for china but not so for India.
I appreciate chinese for their hard work and National spirit which our politicians must inculcate,including the comunists who go for medical treatment to china while we get foreigners to our hospitals for treatment. |

India is rich in cotton crop, but ignorant of foreign marketing. More over, Foreign business houses never trust Indian traders. Because our middle men never deliver the goods, which were shown as samples. It is very essential in the business to build confidence among buyers,which we are lacking and China is sufficiently having. There are several incidents of shipment rejection for sending poor quality products. Even after several bad experiences, our traders not learned honesty. When we are exporting software efficiently, why not hardware ? Another reason for high cost of Indian goods is taxes,levied from centre, state to local. |

You really cannot compete in general items of mass consumption. So specialisation and niche market and higher prices hold the key. India does not produce good quality raw materials, has poor delivery standards and a tendency to make a quick buck by showing an excellent sample and sending shoddy goods. If you want to make a mark in export market, quality and design and exclusivity will be the key. |

Quality and Reliability as well as designs are areas to consider beside cost!
You see Nike (highly branded) are made not in the USA, but in poor countries. Can India also produce such highly branded products?
Is China your only competition? Look again. One area which China is not competitive is "Integrity". Look at the problem with "Made In China" label today - food poisoning, cheap substitutions of ingredients, etc. India will compete better if she can demonstrate that what consumers buy is what they are promised...no short cuts!
I bet if an Indian product of same quality selling at $1.10 vs a Chinese product today at $1.00; most consumers will be willing to pay $1.10
