The BBC seem to think they have a right to conduct electronic surveillance in order to ascertain if a person is operating television broadcasts.
I am certain somebody actually took this to the European Courts and won their case.
Anyway, there is a link to check out below, be sure to add your support.
Also have a look at their detection link. |

They can't - it's a big con to convince people to buy a licence (as you should of course!)
Case in point: I don't own a TV (shock, horror). After numerous letters from these people, one day they showed up and said they had detected a TV signal in my house. "Come in," I said. "Have a look around." They came, they saw, they left slightly despondent, muttering about how it 'must have been next door's signal'.
Hmmmm. As if. I may be strange for not having a TV but I'm sure many other people don't too, and it's not like I'm trying to live without internet ;-) |

there is nothing in the detector van that can pick up your TV receiver they were a hoax. years ago they would put up posters announcing they were going to patrol an area send in a van & randomly select a few houses to visit but it did frighten people without a licence to get one pronto incidently the people who worked in these vans had to sign the offical secrets act. very strange |

Exactly! it's all one big lie. Be careful, however, non licence payers are often betrayed by their own howls of laughter when watching episodes of 'My Hero', thus alerting nearby officals. |

Listening devices, according to them. It's all bollocks though, all they have to do is turn up at addresses with no license. They pretend to have mysterious 'TV detecting technology' to scare people into getting a license. |

1st of all they know every address in Ireland without a license
2nd they don't believe you
3rd you are transmitting one - the electrical signals from your TV are very powerful and easily detectable. |

Theyre not picking up TV signals, but the guilt rays that youre giving off for not having a licence! Best way to deal with this is to put a foil cap on your head and only think nice thoughts.... |
