How can the Post Office justify cutbacks when they pay these stars ridiculos money for their tv ads?
I'm pretty sure that Westlife, Joan Collins, Wendy Richards etc etc don't come cheap but still we are seeing local Post Office's closed on an almost daily basis. Why not plug this money into keeping these offices open instead of inflating these "stars" already bulging bank balances.

The honest answer here is "perceived value". 'The Man' in charge of making these decisions only answers to the bottom line and judges you based on your value to increasing the bottom line. Unfortunately, the Postman doesn't bring in millions of voters I mean viewers. But a one hour segment with a semi-intelligent celebrity could immortalize your brand.

It seems like madness but consider that "The Man" is supplying what we demand. If there was no demand, there would be no need for a supply. We are only being supplied what we are asking for. The WAY we ask is by endorsing certain ideas over others. Every time we spend a dime, click on a website, listen to a song, talk to a friend about a TV Show - we are endorsing those ideas and popularizing them.

I am not saying that I agree with this - it just is what it is. Just like certain people spend a longer time than others in jail for the same crime with similar circumstances. Popularity makes a difference. Hospitals and post offices and schools aren't as popular as Brittany Spears and Paris Hilton. Remember, it is just a PERCEIVED value. Not actual value. That's too boring to be popular; BUT we can change our perceptions and realize the power we have!

It's up to each of us to take personal responsibility in endorsing ideas that are towards the greater good and not just towards lining pockets with money.

Just my 2 cents.

It's because they have a talking head running the PO, he has no real business experience

Exactly. Judging on the performance of both the post office branches and the royal mail deliveries, the sooner they are both privatised, the better. We may once again get the efficiency that we once had !

I am not sure why they need to spend much on advertising. We have all heard of the post office, and what it does.

The thing that annoys me is, who on earth are the post offices competitors? - Nobody, so why do they need to advertise in the first place?
