you can't know for absolute sure, but if you want reasoned discussions, analyses, and opinions on where the American economy is going, listen to something like Bloomberg Radio or watch Bloomberg TV. they talk to every analyst they can find, who are pretty expert in crunching the leading indicators, as far as i'm concerned, and more and more of them are talking about the inevitability of a recession. the "official" definition of 2 consecutive GDP drops tells you way too late, and is next to worthless... |

The USA will only enter the recession if ´The George Bush plan does not provide the benefits hoped for. Also the more people talk about recession the more likely it is that a recession will actually happen. The subprime crash happened because lenders were riding a big fat real estate profit wave and that wave "hit the beach"/fan eventually. |

Yes, lots of them. The problem is that we don't suddenly go into recession. It's agradual process, and some parts of the economy may be in recession (housing for example), while others are not (energy for example.) |

analysts look at spending which measures consumer confidence. the less spent, the less confidence in the economy. they look at things like how much car companies profits have gone down, how housing foreclosures are up how unemployment is doing. everything is measured by the amount we spend. when we're not spending, we're saving because we believe something is going to happen. the funny thing is, the less we spend because we're saving, the more confidence drops because there's no money going towards boosting our economy. that's why bush is giving all these refunds this year, he wants to give people money to spend and boost the economy. |
