Ermmm.... Publicly held corporations are accountable to the stockholders (that would be the public). Additionally, private corporations must jump through most of the legal hoops as far as accountability goes as the private ones do.
So, exactly which corporation do you feel has wronged you or the general public? |

There are plenty of existing laws that regulate and can punish evil doers. Are you concerned about financial reporting, fair treatment of employees and subcontractors, damage to the environment, etc. It is a broad topic -- Having worked in Corporate America for many years, it is clear that the tone is set at the top, meaning, top management sets the tone for ethical behavior, etc etc. Follow through on monetary or criminal punishment is quite a deterrent to those that know or should know in top management. Also, regulators must be more understanding (overzealous regulators is a problem) and again, go after egregious malfeasance. There will always be bad eggs out there. |

I think one way would be involving the media. By exposing their business practices from employee hiring to stockholder meetings, there would be less chances of anything going awry if they were aware that their business is under the spotlight and the awareness of the public is piqued. |
