How come gas stations are crooks
When the price of a barrel of oil plummets, gas stations are allowed to continue to charge more for a gallon of gas, claiming that they bought that oil at a higher price than it is now, and they have to cut their losses. Understandable. So why, when the price of a barrel goes up, gas stations can immediately start to charge more, despite the fact that they bought that oil at a cheaper price?
Additional Details
I realize they need to make profits, but isn't their price already set at a profit? So they are actually trying to make double profit

They are a business, their aim is to make money rather than be nice.
Since petrol is a finite resource which people need rather than want, they are able to push the price up without losing many customers.
Limited supply leads to an increase in demand so they can tinker with the price without massive effect.

Well they need to make a profit or they can't buy more oil! And the *** holes sitting at the top of the charts just want more money in their pockets

Convenience, There is a Chevron that is extremely high, but on the corner of two main streets. Always has a line. However most folks in my suburb do not know that two blocks behind the fancy chevron, is a Quikstop Usually gas there is 1/2 of anywhere else I know of. (not in the best neighborhood gangs etc) I've never had problems there, except their tanks go empty sometimes. Try www.gasbuddy.com/

the retail price is based on what they pay wholesale - it's more likely the Oil companies raising the gasoline prices faster than they lower them, not the gas stations

sarah
they need the profit
