Nearly everybody I know preferred Best Buy for better prices and customer service. Last month, because I had a CC credit card, I went there to shop for my new laptop. Their selection was relatively poor (they had nothing with Blu Ray) and nobody offered to help me. I literally stood in the aisle using one of the laptops to search competitor pricing, and nobody stopped to ask me if I could be helped, etc. When I did finally stop somebody to ask a question, they helped, but had to be prompted. Then, to top it off, when I showed them a model at Best Buy I was looking at, the guy told me that was a great deal and called his buddies (other workers) over to see the great deal BB had on a Blu Ray laptop. Needless to say, I went over to BB...and was immediately offered assistance by 3 staff even though it was Xmas time and they were packed. (Circuit City was virtually empty).
Last week I went to CC to have my satellite radio installed. They quoted me 3 hours. I roamed the store for an hour, went to a few other stores in the shopping center, and came back at 3 hours. I went to the install waiting room and started reading a newspaper and the installer walked in and saw me and said "oh, I didn't realize you were going to be waiting for it. Don't worry, we'll get started on it soon." Hadn't even started it! Took another 2 hours...total of 5 hours waiting around. By the time they had it done, it was too late to call the Satellite Company to begin the service, so I couldn't test it out while I was at CC. Next day, it didn't work right. Called on Wednesday and nobody would take the call, so they said they'd call me back. No call back. Called Friday and they transferred me to car audio and nobody picked up. Each time I transferred back to Customer Service/Operator it just rang and rang. Finally drove down there today since they didn't answer the phone. They said all the installers were laid off, and as part of the bankruptcy they aren't required to deal with new or existing installs..only audio sales. Sent me to manager. Manager told me one of the installers was coming back after lunch and would be able to look at my truck if I went home to get it. Came home and drove back (30 mins each way)....got back and the installer gave me the same story...."We're not looking at install issues, sorry. Call XM if it's a unit issue." So I'm out $200 for installing the stereo, satellite and IPOD adaptor?? "Yes, sorry, I feel ya...but the liquidators say we can't do anything related to new or existing installs, even if we made an error in the install last week."
So, now, thanks to Circuit City, I have to look forward to my CC credit card coming with install charges in a couple week, while I go pay somebody (likely BB) to uninstall what they put in and have it replaced. |
