pcwannabe | How do Yahoo employees sleep at night? |
Yahoo! makes me sick. Read this article - they helped put an innocent man in prison. Unfortunately, I do business with Yahoo. Looking for an alternative now!!!

I guess Yahoo's alternative is to not be in China at all. They (and google and any other company operating in China) either follow the governments rules or get out.
I don't like the fact that these people are winding up in prison either but if you want to have an impact on it, then figure out how to change the Chinese Government. We're just so used to our freedoms in this country.
The Chinese people have more freedom right now then they've had for the past 100 years. With the limited internet access they have, they at least have more opportunity to see the outside world then ever. So if Yahoo, Google, MSN, all of them, get out of China, you've taken away what little access they have to send email to the outside. Is that what you want?
I'm not siding with Yahoo here as much as I'm saying there is a much bigger picture then you're looking at.
Look up the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989, Hundreds of Chinese were sent to prison after that. Many were executed. It's actually gotten better in the last 15 years and is improving more and more. |

In China, all companies have to abide by Chinese law, not American. It doesn't matter where the headquarters is. This is nothing to do with Yahoo in the US, and considering a lawsuit in the US over activities of the Chinese government is a little beyone the pale. Any company in China has to abide by Chinese laws, just as a Chinese company in the US would have to abide by US laws. |

They wanted to do business in China, the Chinese govt. told Yahoo this is the mode of operation here, comply or you won't do business in China. A lot of people howled down Yahoo because they didn't stick by the principles we have in the US, as short-sighted as their self-righteousness is. |

uh-oh! It's Elisa!

well they're dealing with the police. |

Different countries have different laws, and you need to respect that, although you may disagree with them, if you wish to do business in a foreign country you need to abide by that countries laws. |

All in the name of the almighty dollar.
Wow, hope we don't turn into that here. |

Look, that's the way things are over there. If Yahoo is going to operate there, they have to abide by the governments rules.
Aren't you glad we live in America?
If you think that's bad, do a little reading about the other rights those folks DON'T HAVE...It is not a free country. |

Yes its all Yahoo's fault, blame them. They're a company and their bad. Get a life, yahoo didn't put him in jail the Chinese did. Blame them for their own actions. |
