How do dollar stores make a profit?

consultant
They buy low and sell high? Basically they buy in bulk and sell volume so they only need to make a small margin per unit sold to earn a profit. Buy 10 million pens for $0.50 each and sell for $0.99 each is pretty good profit.

Buy low, sell for a profit. They look for all sorts of auctions, consignments, etc. When local stores close out, they sometimes make a bulk buy. You don't have any guarantees of what will be IN a dollar store. They don't take coupons. They don't offer senior days or such, so the pricing is pretty straightforward. Some of their stuff is also expired merchandise, which is not necessarily bad, but could be. A lot of their stuff like off-brand toothpaste and such is from China or elsewhere, so again, cheap.
The employees make around minimum wage in all likelihood. So overhead isn't as much as it could be for a higher class store.
It's amazing how little you have to pay for an item if you buy a LOT of them and when they are part of a chain, they can do that and the warehouses ship to the individual stores.
The profit margin doesn't have to be that high to stay in business and God knows, most Americans love their dollar stores.

hope i can help
Everything is made cheaply.

Maybe they should convert to the euro store.

Do you mean stores that convert money to other types of money? If so, they make their money off of service charge meaning if you are going to china and want to convert your $100 into yen they would do that for you then they would ask for a service charge. But if you ar talking about stores that sell gold coins and other old types of moneys then if say a penny was not made any more but still was worth 1 cent they would also charge you on top of that one cent some extra money depending how old the money is.
