How do i deal with lazy employees?
Just because I work them more than forty hours a week. Like usually 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. So one employee goes on telling me that he has a life outside of work, and he never has any time for his wife.

Maybe YOU should get a life and realize that your employees are actual human beings and not machines here for your use and abuse. Most likely they aren't lazy but are instead burned out from work and when people get burned out, they perform less than satisfactory. Do yourself a favor, and them, and treat them the way you would like to be treated. If that doesn't work, then my only suggestion is for you to one day have to work for someone just like you!

I would never work with someone who referred to me as "lazy" when I'm being worked 12/7's. I've done that and was at least appreciated for the hard work. Geez, keep in mind that not everyone wants to have only work in their life, most want to work to live, not live to work.
Life's short!

What makes you think he's lazy and not just right. Maybe you just can't handle the truth.

hmmm I am thinking you must spend mondo money on o/t.... I am also thinking cut down to 50 hours per person and hire a couple more.

It doesn't sound like he/she wants to work. People that work more than 40 hours a week get paid time and a half for that over time as an incentive. If they aren't willing to work past there required hours for a week, then you should find someone willing to do so. How do you deal with lazy employees, first I would show them you are willing to do the work as well. The best form of leadership comes from showing and no just talking about it. Next you should make sure they are being compensated in a fair/reasonable way. If he doesn't have time for his wife, then you can suggest he find a job where he will have time for his wife. The kind of work matters as well and maybe the person is just lazy. Give a pep talk and after a long week take them out to dinner. There has to be some kind of reward...

I hope your kidding. Try working 12 hour shifts for 30 days straight and tell me how you feel. Your employee should quit, I know I would..

You must have a lot of cats and no life...

First off, I would remind him that he does not have to work there, and he is more than welcome to find another job. As long as they knew what their hours were going to be when the took the job, they have no reason to complain.

When I had to deal with someone like that, I figured out how much he could get done in x amount of hours. I then made a deal with him. He could leave when he finished that amount of work, or when his shift ended, which ever came first. He was more efficient and cut his work time by a third. I got what I needed, and was able to finish earlier in the day myself.
