jaynsa | How do none profit make money to pay employees and how does one start a none profit organization? |

non profit organization status only means that the organization is not intended for profit. They can still function like a normal organization (including hiring and paying staff), but all of the proceeds MUST go to some sort of benefit in order to be considered non profit.
How they get their money depends on the type of business they do. They could sell a commodity or service or they could take donations. Or they could do both. |

Non-Profits make TONS of money in the United States. They pay employees and management REALLY HIGH SALARIES, to use up any extra money they make, that is how they are non-profit.
Perfectly legal, who do you think owns so many of those boats and big houses? If you want to make lots of money, just startup a non-profit, the goverment will give you money to get you going, then you will be a high roller too. |

John Q. Public makes the donation. Now,not all of that money is going into the charity. Ten to fifteen percent of all donations is held to pay the staff and utilities(electricity,sewer,water,etc..)... with your State Comptroller's office to see what permit(s) you need to start one. |

Non-profit organizations take some money to pay employees and overhead expenses. They just don't make a profit for the organization itself. All the money not going to pay employees and overhead goes to the people the organization is supporting. |
