Just be fair to people, treat them all the same and reward them when they do well, but it will always boil down to money at the end, everyone works to live not lives to work |

well money is certainly important, but what is also important to motivate people is to make them feel that their work is important, that they are key members of the team.
make sure you periodically have meetings with your staff to remind them of the big picture and what their role is.
Oh by the way, YOU can't motivate people. They have to motivate themselves. Therefore, ask your employees, "what MOTIVATES you??" For example, one woman I managed
really wanted to move from full time to only part time, and be able to have more time with her family, since she was nearing retirement age. Therefore we worked together to accomodate her. If I said NO way, you have to work full time, and here's more money.....there is no way she would have been happy. |

I perform best for supervisors that praise me for a job well done. I don't seem to do as well when I have a boss that only speaks up when I do something wrong. It seems like when my boss points out my good points, I want to do even more to make him praise me. |

Where I work the best teams are the ones that the supervisors work elbow to elbow with the crew. If they are willing to break a sweat, the crew will too. It's called leading by example, I think. |
