How do you find out who is the owner of a corporation?

rdjhoya
Public corporations are owned by shareholders. You can find out the largest shareholders on Yahoo Finance. Corporations are organized in an individual state. For private corporations, you can check the corporation's website or a site like Hoover's for the state of organization. Once you know the state, call that state's secretary of state's office to get information on the corporation's ownership.

Public or Private Corporation?

Conan the Librarian
I am a business librarian and I am asked to find owners, CEOs, managers, and many other positions for comaonies all the time. There are several ways to find this information:

(1) Visit the company's web site.

(2) If they do not have a web site, use Hoovers Business Database http://www.hoovers.com/free/. Simpyt type in the company name, submit, and look at the "People" tab.

(3) Ask your local public or college librarian. They will happily answer your question for free (I do all the time, and I enjoy helping people!)

These are all FREE methods that will not cost you a dime, and they are all guaranteed to work.

Usually if a corporation has a website, then you can find the owner on there somewhere.

well it should be on the company's web-site, however once the company goes public it's impossible to keep track of the owners, because whoever buys the stock is the owner of the company

Public corporations are owned by their stockholders.

If looking for a corporation in your state go to the department of licensing in your state. IE. Washington state dol or department of licensing. Search on the Internet. Each state has a dol. That will also show you other links from the dol.
