I'm assuming we are talking about a problem with being shy or lack of self confidence. If so, ...
Force yourself to say "hi" to people you walk past. That's the best place to start. I had a temp job once and figured, what the heck, nothing to lose. So, just started saying "hi" to people whenever I walked past them. Don't wait until they say it. You say it first. Do the same in public places, not just at work. Chances are you'll never see those people again, so you have nothing to lose by saying "hi."
Sounds silly and simple, but it really does work. After that, you can start striking up a conversation with people you don't know - standing in line at the store, waiting for public transportation, in a store. I used to force myself to talk to one person each time I went to the store, whether it was asking a clerk for the location of an item or asking a fellow shopper if they had tried an item or could recommend one over the other.
A lot of assertiveness comes with age, too. |

Yeah, jokes aside...confidence is built up by success. Its obvious really, eh? Its not magic. Just as lack of confidence is caused by failure. So you have to break out of the vicious cycle of failure-less confidence-more failure etc. Easy to say, hard to do. Focus on what people are saying. Try to respond to that rather than on them or yrself. See a councellor...look on the web how have others changed? The last answer was good...build up small successes. |
