JP | How do you make someone think your idea was their idea?? |
A coworker told me to make the boss happy we had to make him think that everything was his idea or that any changes or improvements were caused by him. I have several ideas that I'd like him to "think was his own idea", but have no clue how to do this. |

It REALLY depends on the idea, but here's an example:
You go into your bosses office and you REALLy want him to agree that the sheet metal part you're designing needs to be welded, not glued together.
"Sir, I'm having some trouble here. If I ask the guys to glue this again, it's simply not going to work.. The customer has been expressing concerns that the glue isn't as strong as it should be. I'm trying to figure out the best way to remake this part so that the glue isn't needed. I thought about getting it bent-up out of all one-piece, but it's not possible. What else can we do?"
"Well you could weld it?.."
"Duhh... that's why I came to you.. You've always got the answers right there in your head."
I did this recently to my boss, and you have to understand that the client had never voiced concerns about the glue, but had talked about stability in the past. I knew we needed to start welding them when I saw them looking crappy out in the shop.
Now, when I headed back down there, I explained that the bossman told them to weld it. In reality, he was just answering my question.. giving an option other than gluing that could be used. He even made a face of distaste when he said it.
So later, when the price has gone up, and he's breathing down our necks, we'll be able to say, "well bossman you SAID we should weld them, and you should see how well-constructed they are now. I wouldn't go back on that NOW.."
That's the basic idea.. |

Here are some lines to use:
"When we were talking earlier, you gave me the idea to _________. And I think that's a great way to go."
"I think you mentioned _______ in our last meeting, and we think that's a great idea and would like to incorporate it into the plan."
If you know what you want (direct contact with customers, for example) and need him to think of it, lead him to the solution:
"You know, if there was only a way we could contact those customers directly, we could be more efficient in our messaging." Then let him figure out how to contact those customers and feel proud of himself. Give lots of positive feedback.
This is a technique that moms have by nature, I think. :) "Honey, would you like a sandwich or some yummy warm chicken noodle soup for lunch?" |

First: Ask him questions about the idea you like and every time he says anything near what you believe give it a great endorsement.
Second: Pay close attention to everything he says on a daily basis and if he says anything like what you believe praise him for it.
I can't think of any other way because some people are just hard headed and there's no way you can change their minds. |

learn to ask "leading questions" where, as he answers your questions, it leads him to an obvious train of thought you're trying to get across to him.
this is, by the way, a very successful therapy technique for helping people "come to their own conclusions" about what they need to do to help themselves, in a way that keeps them in control of the situation rather than making them have to "obey" someone else - which can lead to rebellion. |

First of all I disagree with ur co worker .. if your idea's brilliant then boss'll nurtur you more .. and happy with you as well .. your image's hightlighting in your boss' eyes ..
but ..
If you still wanna do this .. then just tell him the story lines .. and ask him that am confuse here .. clear 99 percent so that he can easily tell you how to solve this 1 percent .. then afta' success tell him that it's only because of him otha' wise you wont be able to get success without his help ..
that's it .. simple .. |

That is called manipulation and that is a form of lying. You can’t get someone else to say what you want them to say. I would say don’t put words in other peoples mouth because it may come back to haunt you. |

Give them to him anonymously like write them down and just leave them laying around where he will find them or put them in a suggestion box in the office and if they are really good perhaps he will use them and no one will have to know where they came from. |
