Hooters is one of many companies who do this sort of thing. Sports cheerleader hirings are similar.
Hooters qualifications require
1) A warm agreeable personality
2) They rate them on pleasantness of attitude
3) Knowledge of dealing with customers
4) Fit attractive appearance.
Hooter girls are not required to be genetically pretty, just at least average or below standard weight for height I believe it is. Then they secretly work it in a way where they have a bias against non-pretty applicants and it's hard to prove it's deliberate. |

They are not required to hire someone who is unsuitable to do the job. It is not discrimination to have employees with certain attributes. It would be if race or religion was a criteria. |

CORPUS CHRISTI - A man has filed a gender discrimination lawsuit against Hooters, claiming he applied for a serving position and was denied because he's a male.
Nikolai Grushevski unsuccessfully applied for a waiter's job with Hooters in May 2008. At the time, he claimed gender discrimination, but a complaint to the labor department went nowhere.
Now, he has a lawyer and has filed a federal lawsuit against Hooters.
Grushevski's attorney, Martin Shellist, said he believes they have a strong case. In his lawsuit, Shellist said, "Hooters attempts to circumvent the law by referring to its waiters as 'Hooters Girls'."
"I think we've got a strong case. I think if you take Hooters' logic to the extreme, it violates the law at every point. I think it's unfair," Shellist stated. |

You obviously haven't been to many hooters. Where I live they have some fat girls. It all depends on how many girls want to work there. I am sure they justify if by saying they are the most qualified and have experience as a waitress already. They do hire fat girls to work the register and bar. |

Pretty much the same way that dancing companies only hire people who can dance. The position requires that they be fit and pretty, and that's that. They have other jobs where other kinds of people can be hired, like men or less attractive women, nobody is forcing them to do anything. It would be another matter if they had a waitress, and all of a sudden she would have a disfiguring accident, and they'd fire her. THEN I think they would be breaking the law. |

They hire cooks and dishwashers that don't fall into that category, so they are able to get away with it. |

They can't prove that they aren't hiring other girls unless they complain. Other girls don't try so their is no complain reported.
They hire the other girls to work in the kitchen. You can always claim not enough waitress experience. It is the same as not hiring guys except to work in the kitchen.
You could say that is sexist. Guy's just know better and don't apply |

A bunch of liquored up guys is pretty loose lipped. Only the attractive ones would make tips, and the not-so-attractive would be the "butt" of many crass remarks. No one would work in such a hostile environment. Its simply "survival of the fittest". |
