Well when you search something to the right of the screen some links come up. Those people pay good money to have those links there. With all the people using google mapsand earth they can drive up the price of advertisements. |

People pay to be put up high on the list when you search for something, and some sites advertise on the sides of google search pages. |

Advertising! It's not just on their main site, but also all the websites they own (e.g., youtube). |

Company pay big bucks to be the first result when you search something. Like Home Depot. If you type in "Home Repair" Home Depot may be the first in that search. (Im not sure ) It is kinda like advertising. Big companys pay big bucks to be the first or on the first page |

Simple: having a good product (search engine) and Advertisement
google the word: "viagra"
you notice that there is a bunch of advertizement on the top (below the search bar) and on the right side of your screen.
You have to pay to get placed there. |

Doing a Google search is free, but check out the right side of the results page. "Sponsored Links" lead to businesses who pay Google to get a top listing in a search. These businesses pay Google every time somebody clicks on a sponsored link. It's called the "AdWords" program. Yahoo does the same thing too, with the sponsored links on the right hand side of the search results page. |

It's sometimes hard to notice-- but Google uses "Smartads" which are not nearly as obtrusive as banner-type, and are also tagerted based on serach results. People pay big bucks for targeted results. |

From the companies that pay to be listed in the top searches and on the right. Everyone uses Google. It is brilliant. Plus the other companies and sites they buy. Those sites also are usually free and make their money from advertsement. |

There is also one version not free which is a lot more precise than the regular ( Able to show you up to one metter or people on some boat etc...) I bought it in the past 25 or 29$ i forgot .But at that time i did not knew i have to register the answer . And i stayed on the public version, thinking it was not worthy for the price.Till Google one year later mail me to renew my registration, but it was to late, and i never had the real version. But i tell you , I saw it on some friend house , and i can tell you , IT'S GREAT !. To be back at your question, i believe , giving free public version , and having a better one for sale ,plus the advertising, i think Google do a lot of money with that. But Google is so big,and work with some very big company , I think this part of their business is only a little one |

Google charges on a pay-per-click basis. each keyword you search on google starts at 5 cents/click but companies battle for the number one spot so this value gets inflated.
The highest priced keyword is "Mesothelioma survivor" at over $70 per click!!!! If you would like to screw over that company paying for the advertising and make google an extra 70 bucks go here: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&hs=4An&q=Mesothelioma+survivor&btnG=Search
To see the price of other keywords go here: https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal |
