Ugh...I asked a similar question this morning. Between fuel and grocery all that's left is bill money. Apparently people seem to think the economy will come around again, it goes in cycles. In the mean time I deal with grocery prices by planning my meals for the coming week, making a list and not deviating from that list. Also, buy off brand items, even though those items are becoming grossly over priced as well. |

The outlook is bleak. There just isn't a way to put a positive spin on it. Especially after Warren Buffett said that the recession will be longer and deeper than what most analysts think. It is very hard to deal with high food prices. I often buy off brand labels because they are generally the same quality as brand names. But the price of even the cheaper brands have almost doubled in the last 5 years too. I expect the economic hard times to last the entire 4 year term of the next President. The rich will make it out of the recession unscathed as usual and the poor and middle class will suffer and will have to cut back on a lot of things. Especially because of the weak job market and stagnant wages. Nobody can dispute the fact that the gap between the rich and the poor is rapidly widening. Nobody even disputes that anymore. And it becomes ever more apparent in hard economic times such as these. |

We have changed our food consumption and, I think, improved our daily diet. Both my fiance and myself work out almost daily and we consume a lot of "skim milk", fruits, etc. We may also consume "Reduced Fat" Vanilla Wafers and other products with sugar, at times.
We already drink a lot of water daily. As of last week we decided to not buy "milk", sugar treats, and some fruits are just too high in cost as well. Bananas, that is part of my required diet, got to have these. Instead of just buying anything "cruising" the isles, we now are more aware in what we purchase. Not necessarily looking at price, but, do we really need this? This helped tremendously and we will continue. |

I honestly haven't noticed much of a change in my normal groceries except for the bread. I'm not worried. There are more important things to worry about like the war ending. :) |
