How is wal mart a monopoly?
Please explain to me why wal mart is a monopoly. And what stores do they rule over? Or are not really competition. Like Target and K mart right?

Wal-Mart is typically considered a monopoly because of how they have taken over the retail space, keeping potential competitors from being able to compete with them due to the competitors inability to keep up with Wal-Marts aggressive pricing structure and logistics system.

It isn't a true monopoly, but generally its considered such because it knocks out small businesses that would specialize in what Walmart generalizes

Well, i don't think it is monopoly.. It is just that the target market for them is different than Target and K..

Walmart: Has everything, good prices.. But lacks good quality. So people who don't care about the looks or the brands go there.

Target; is little bit more of a higher level. has good brands, and few people, so better shopping experience.

K or fries: closer to my house. Fast grocery shopping

Every one of them targets a different market

It isn't exactly accurate, but people say that because WalMart, especially in its early days, would move into a rural area, offer everything at lower prices than anyone else could, and drive everyone who sells things that Walmart does out of business.

In the city, WalMart has plenty of competition, though they still do well. But in some rural areas, it is the only place worth shopping at--the other stores either don't exist, don't have the selection, or are too expensive.

Walmart is not a monopoly because they have competitors that sale the same thing they sale but its in a different form. target, k mart, Costco, bj whole sales, ikea, best buy, circut city, theres way more than this, you dont have to buy from just walmart.

I think when people say walmart is a monopoly. It's because they are taking business from smaller stores & companies. They are monopolizing every busines under there one roof. They have everything in there stores and are constantly trying to add more ways to keep you (the customer) from having to go anywhere else. In some walmarts they hold: photo shops, dining area, hair salon, pharmacy, automotive, nail salon, banks, clothes, groceries, gas pumps outside & some hold that & even more. I personally don't shop at walmart for this reason.

When a company can drive the market prices any direction they desire and competition is only an annoyance and not truly competition, I would call that a monopoly. Walmart is as close to being a monopoly as "Ma-Bell" was in 1984. From financial services to clothing and owning almost 500 newspapers across the country. They are as close to being a monopoly as any one company could be. Lets get real about it. Not enough people care because Walmart makes things convienent. They have enough money to stop any public campaign that is leveled against them. This giant is beyond our control. Some day archeologist will talk about how people paid homage at the temples of Walmart.
